The Correct Use Steps of the Summit Charger

Summit Charger

The Summit charger is designed for 48 volt battery systems and has industry leading intelligence. It is well suited for floor care, industrial vehicles and duffy boats as well as general deep-cycle charging applications.

The charger includes multiple active battery profiles for wet/flooded, AGM and gel batteries. It also has a storage mode feature that maintains a charge on the batteries.

1. Connect the Battery

Electrical Summit Series chargers offer premium battery charging performance and advanced features not available in other low-cost chargers. Designed for 48 volt battery systems in golf carts, industrial machines (floor cleaners and scissor lifts) and marine applications, the new Summit Series chargers are smarter than ever before with next-generation charge control technology.

Connecting a golf cart battery to the Summit 800W-3300W charger is simple. The manual includes clear instructions for connecting the charger to the vehicle/cart battery and to a standard 120-volt AC power outlet. The Summit charger has an auto voltage feature that allows you to charge 36 volt and 48 volt batteries as well.

For those who need an easy way to monitor their battery charging process, the new chargers come with a Bluetooth connection to an iPhone or Android phone and tablet application called ChargerConnect. This allows you to view the status of any charging cycle and select the active battery profile, upload new profiles, change between on-board and off-board settings and download charge history records.

When selecting a battery charger for your application, the most important factor is that it will work with the battery and cart/machine type you need to power. This is why the Summit charger has an auto-voltage feature to allow you to charge any 24 volt, 36 volt or 48 volt golf cart and industrial machine/lift battery. It is also engineered to provide the most efficient charging for your batteries, saving you time and money on replacement costs.

A key feature of the Summit charger is that it will not overcharge the battery or damage the internal cells. It does this by analyzing the state of charge of each battery and only delivering what it needs when needed. This will extend the life of your batteries and help you get the longest use out of each charge.

The Lester Summit 1050W is an Industrial Grade battery charger with a robust die cast aluminum enclosure that can be mounted on-board or used as a stationary charger. It works with all EZGO, Yamaha and Club Car golf carts as well as many industrial machines like floor cleaners and lifts that are powered by 48 volt battery systems.

2. Turn On

The Summit II high frequency automatic golf cart battery charger features multi-voltage recognition and automatically adjusts to either 36 volt or 48 volt charging. It is the most advanced charger Lester has ever made, perfect for any motive power application such as golf cars, aerial work platforms, scissor lifts, floor care machines and industrial vehicles. This 1050 watt charger can be installed on-board or used as a stationary charger.

It is designed for use with 24-volt, 36-volt, and 48-volt batteries and has a wide range of output options to meet your specific application including float mode, equalizing, and maintenance charge. The charger will also monitor the battery temperature and prevent overheating.

Easily customizable with external DC and signal connections for your unique application. Features include automatic charge cycle status, multi-voltage detection, programmable power control algorithms, and advanced storage mode. It also complies with DOE, CEC and NRCan standards.

Use the ChargerConnect(tm) App for Apple and Android devices to remotely view charger and battery status and performance. The app allows you to connect to the charger via Bluetooth wireless technology, change the active battery charging profile, upload new profiles, switch between on-board and off-board, and download charge history records.

The charger's internal communication electronics are powered by the battery pack being charged, so the charger will not communicate with the app until the battery is fully charged. Once the charger is communicating with the app, the LEDs on the top of the charger will begin to blink simultaneously to indicate a successful connection.

The charger's serial number is the identifier of the charger in the ChargerConnect app (unless the identifier was set on the charger when shipped from Battery Pete's) and can be changed on the "System Profile" or "Dashboard" screen of the app. The "Vehicle ID" is factory set blank and can be configured on the "System Profile" or "Dashboard" screens of the app. The charger's hardware version and firmware are displayed in the "System Information" screen of the app. This information is useful if you need to contact Lester Electrical for technical support.

3. Connect the Power Cord

The Lester Summit II high frequency automatic golf cart battery charger offers the best solution for a club car, Ezgo or Yamaha cart with either on board or off board (OBC) application. It also supports the use of dual batteries or charging two different types of batteries at the same time. It has an advanced storage mode that will maintain a charge on your batteries for months at a time. It also provides the option for a full recharge every 10 days. It is Bluetooth capable and connects to a smart phone or tablet via the ChargerConnect app (available for both Apple and Android).

The 650 watt model has an AC power cord inlet that will accept a standard UL Listed IEC 60320 C16 connector. The charger comes with a cable set that has an IEC plug end and a clamping assembly to ensure the connection is made correctly. It is recommended to use an extension cord that is at least 20 feet long and that is rated for outdoor or industrial use. The AC power cord should be connected to an outlet that is properly grounded and fuses protected.

When the charger is turned on and connected to the battery pack the green LED indicator lights will be on. When the batteries are fully charged the light will turn off. The charger will then start a maintenance cycle which will recharge the batteries once every 10 days. The maintenance cycles are logged by the charger and can be seen when using the ChargerConnect App for Apple or Android.

The charger will come factory configured with the active battery profile for basic flooded lead acid batteries when ordered from Battery Pete’s. If the customer chooses to change the active battery profile they can do this using the ChargerConnect App for Apple or android. This app will allow the user to view the current charge cycle status, select a new battery charge profile or upload one, download charge history records and more. The app is available for free on the App Store or Google Play and can be downloaded to any compatible smart phone or tablet.

4. Charge the Battery

The Summit is an industrial battery charger with a brain and is the smartest on the market. It’s designed to charge all battery types including Wet/flooded, AGM and gel batteries. It will automatically recognize and select the appropriate charging algorithm based on the battery type and capacity. It also includes current limit, short circuit, reverse polarity and over/under voltage protections.

Using the free ChargerConnect app on your Apple or Android smartphone or tablet device, you can view charge cycle status and select the active battery profile. You can also upload new charger profiles, switch between on-board and off-board settings and download charge history records. You can even connect to your charger remotely to check the charger and battery health status!

This charger has a sealed DB9 (DE9) connector near the DC terminal block for remote LED or CAN communication cable assemblies. This port should be covered with a plastic protective cover when it is not in use to keep moisture and debris out of the connector.

If you want to use this charger for on-board applications, you will need to interface the charger lockout control signal on terminal 2 with a vehicle/equipment motor speed controller. The lockout control signal is pulled high internally through a 10k ohm resistor to the charger positive (+) when not in use.

Once you have connected the power cord and installed the battery, it is time to begin charging. You should monitor the battery and the Summit charger closely, checking the status of the charge cycle every five minutes or so. Once the charger says the battery is full, you should check to make sure it is warm to the touch. If it is not, continue to charge for another five minutes and then check again.

Always use a good quality lead acid battery when you install your charger. Using an undersized or subpar battery will decrease the life of your charger and may damage it or the battery. Also, always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for installing and maintaining your battery. This will ensure that you get the maximum performance and lifespan of your battery and charger.
